Candy red tears dripped down the face of the red sweatered troll. He was in immense pain. Even his death hadn't been as painful as this was, and that was saying something. Not that he should be saying anything anymore. That was the whole point to this...this torture. A sob caught in his throat, igniting fire through his neck as he coughed violently, carmine blood spattering the ground in front of him. One more incision...and there. Kankri collapsed, knife clattering to the ground next to him as he clutched at his bleeding throat. His blood and tears mixed on the ground, becoming a blurry indistinct puddle as tears and pain continued to fog his vision. He had done it. He had actually done it. Maybe...maybe now he would cease triggering his friends that he held so dear. If only they had told him sooner, why, he would have gladly found a different approach to his teachings. But now, now it was much to late. This was his only option, a final, desperate attempt to salvage what he had with the others. He prayed that it worked. Kankri coughed, slumping against the wall, hands still clutched around his throat, trying to stop the mutant blood spilling beneath his fingers. As he lay there, he could faintly make out the sound of footsteps, running towards his respiteblock. The door was thrown open, Porrim standing there without even knocking. She rushed over to Kankri, horror etched into her features as she dropped to her knees beside him.

"O+h Kanny..." She whispered, staring at him. Kankri stared back, a slight smile playing on his lips as he slipped into unconsciousness.

When the mutantblood awoke, the first thing he registered was the fact he was laying on what the humans called a couch. He was laying on a couch, there were voices nearby, and something was horribly wrong with his throat. Or so he thought, until the memory of the night before came rushing back to him, slamming into the poor troll like a metric fuck ton of bricks. Once he had successfully gathered his thoughts, Kankri sat up, instantly drawing attention from the other occupants in what he now knew to be the livingblock. Porrim, Latula, and Kurloz were standing there staring at Kankri, each with a different emotion on their face - from happiness to overwhelming grief to empathy. The red sweatered troll simply smiled and waved.

"Kanny...ho+w are yo+u do+ing?" Porrim asked, biting her lip.

Kankri's smile widened, and he made an "o" shape with his thumb and forefinger, a universal sign for "okay". He continued on, making a gesture with his hand to convey something along the lines of reciprocating Porrim's question back to her and the others.

    Porrim teared up at the gesture, and Latula set a hand on her shoulder. "h3y m4n, s4y som3th1ng for us w1ll y4? you'r3 k1nd of worry1ng us w1th th3 l4ck of sp33ch k4nkr1."

Kankri's eyes widened, and he frantically stood up, searching around for a piece of paper and a pen. When he had retrieved the items, he scribbled out a quick note, sliding it across the table for the others to read. I d9 n9t mean t9 alarm y9u, 6ut I n9 l9nger have the capa6ility 9f speech. Kurl9z I'm sure, if he is willing 9f c9urse, can teach me h9w t9 c9mmunicate in a m9re effective manner later. 6ut f9r n9w, this will have t9 suffice. My ap9l9gies.

The three other trolls in the room paled out, and Porrim quickly fled, swallowing a sob. Kurloz moved to sit next to Kankri, wrapping an arm around the shorter troll's shoulders in a comforting hug. Kankri, to his surprise, tolerated the contact. Latula meanwhile, stood there with his note clutched in her hand. "wh4t h4pp3n3d...?"

Kankri once again picked up his pen, scrawling out another sentence or two for 'Tula to read. I did what had t9 6e d9ne Latula. It seemed like the m9st effective way t9 assure I did n9t trigger any9ne with my l9ng winded ram6lings.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, welling up with teal tears. "th4t do3sn't 4nsw3r my qu3st1on k4nkr1. wh4t d1d you do?"

    Acc9rding t9 Cr9nus, y9u all wanted n9thing m9re than f9r me t9 cease my speeches. What 6etter way than t9 simply cease my speech all t9gether? S9 I t99k it up9n myself t9 rem9ve my v9cal c9rds.

Latula gasped, a tear slipping down her cheek as Kurloz furrowed his brows in worry. The mute troll had a feeling they weren't going to like what they read next. He couldn't have been more right.

    Please, d9n't cry. Y9u wanted me t9 Shut Up, didn't y9u?
